How we source and roast
Our commitment to sustainability
Every cup starts a long way from Sydney, on farms, with the people who grow it. We care how it gets here, who was paid fairly along the way, and what it costs the planet to roast it. Here's what we do about it.
The numbers, plainly.
- 300solar panels on the roastery roof
- 132,000 kWhof solar power a year
- 70%smaller carbon footprint
- 400 tonnesof CO2 offset a year
Ethical sourcing
Fair to the people who grow it.
We support the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Labour Organisation's Declaration of Philadelphia. That means freedom of association, fair wages, reasonable working hours, and no child labour.
We only partner with suppliers who follow strict Fair Trade practices, so the farmers behind every bean are paid fairly and can reinvest in their farms and communities.
We import our own green beans and work closely with growers and small farms, so we know where our coffee comes from and who grew it.

Sustainable farming
Grown with the land in mind.
Our supply partners work with producers on farming methods that protect biodiversity and limit harm to the land around them. That includes tackling the real problems in coffee: pesticides and deforestation.
Good soil makes good coffee. It's the simplest reason to look after it.

Keeping it solar
Solar-powered roasting.
Our Silverwater roastery was built with energy in mind, from efficient roasters to a solar-powered warehouse. The roof carries 300 Canadian Solar monocrystalline panels (310 watt), generating over 132,000 kWh a year and cutting our carbon footprint by 70%.

Carbon offsetting
What we can't cut, we offset.
Solar handles most of it. For the emissions we can't remove yet, we work with reputable environmental partners on reforestation, renewable energy and methane capture projects. Together they offset 400 tonnes of CO2 every year.

Packaging
Less waste, bag by bag.
Great coffee shouldn't cost the planet. We keep moving our packaging towards recyclable, compostable and biodegradable materials, and we work with our suppliers to use fewer resources and make sure waste is handled properly.
It's a work in progress. We'll keep improving it, and keep telling you where it stands.
Still in orbit.
This mission doesn't have an end date. We'll keep finding better ways to source, roast and pack. Every bag you choose helps keep it going.
