MASTERING THE V60 POUR OVER

MASTERING THE V60 POUR OVER

There’s something beautifully ritualistic about brewing coffee with a V60. It’s precise, calming, and rewards patience with a clean, expressive cup that highlights every delicate note your beans have to offer.

Whether you’re new to the pour over method or looking to refine your technique, here’s our go-to recipe for brewing the perfect V60 at home.

What You’ll Need

  • V60 brewer + filter paper

  • Freshly roasted coffee (we recommend any of our Single Origin selections)

  • Digital scales

  • Kettle (ideally gooseneck for precision)

  • Timer

Brew Parameters

  • Coffee dose: 14g

  • Water: 200g (filtered)

  • Water temperature: 90–92°C

  • Grind size: Coarse – similar to sea salt

  • Total brew time: 2:00 – 2:30 minutes

Step-by-Step Method

1. Prep Your Equipment

Place your V60 over your mug or carafe, insert your filter paper, and rinse it thoroughly with hot water to remove any paper taste and preheat your brewer.

2. Weigh & Grind

Measure out 14g of coffee and grind it to a coarse setting (think sea salt texture). Add your grounds to the V60 and give it a gentle shake to level the bed.

3. First Pour – 30g (Bloom)

Start your timer and gently pour 30g of hot water over the grounds, ensuring all are evenly saturated. Let it sit for 30 seconds to allow the coffee to bloom—this releases trapped gases and preps the coffee for even extraction.

4. Second Pour – Up to 80g

At the 30-second mark, begin pouring slowly and steadily until you reach 80g total. Pour in small circles, keeping the stream gentle and controlled.

5. Third Pour – Up to 140g

Once the water drains slightly, continue pouring up to 140g total. This helps maintain a consistent brew temperature and extraction rate.

6. Final Pour – Up to 200g

Complete your final pour to reach 200g total. Let the water drain through completely.

7. Brew Time Check

The entire process should finish between 2:00 and 2:30 minutes. If your brew runs too fast or too slow, adjust your grind size slightly next time.
